Email Cover Letters

Generally speaking you should use the same cover letter you would use for a snail-mailed applications in your e-mail application. This means that the e-mail cover letter must be well-written, targeted to a specific company and may not have any grammatical or spelling errors.

Remember to follow the guidelines for submission in the job ad. If no guidelines are posted, write the cover letter in the body of the e-mail. Do not use any to HTML formatting since you don’t know what kind of software the employer will be using.
Attach Your Resume
The job posting usually asks to send the resume as an attachment. If so, send your resume as a PDF file.

If the job posting to do not accept attachments, paste the resume into the body of the email using a simple font and remove any formatting.

The Subject Line
Include the position you are applying for in the subject line of the e-mail.

The Signature
Put your contact info into the signature where the employer can easily find it.

Test Message
Before you send cover letter to the employer send it to yourself to see if everything looks good.

Spell Check
Make sure that your spelling and grammar is correct, this is just as important as in written cover letters.
